Hi, I'm Coach Jamie, a swim instructor.
What if someone needs help in the water?
Listen to this explanation away from the water. Sometimes a person in the water needs help, and it might look very quiet. It is not always noisy and splashy like you see in movies. A person in trouble might not make any sound.
If you see someone who might need help, the first thing to do is get a grown-up. Find a lifeguard or your grown-up right away and tell them what you see. You stay out of the water yourself.
Someone having a hard time in the water may not be able to wave or call out. They might just look very still and quiet. That is why you tell an adult even if you do not hear anything.
It is the grown-up's job to help the person in the water. Your job is to go get the grown-up. This is the safest way for everyone.
Your grown-up might throw something that floats for the person to hold onto.
Thanks for watching!
