Hi, I'm Coach Jamie, a swim instructor.
What happens at a first swim lesson?
Listen to this explanation away from the water. At a swim lesson, you meet your instructor, who helps you learn about being in the water. You might be in a class with other children.
First, you learn rules for staying safe around the pool, like asking before you get in. The instructor shows you how to get into the water safely. Your grown-up often watches from a dry spot nearby.
In the water, the instructor helps you try different activities. You also learn how to move yourself to the side of the pool. The instructor gives you helpful ideas to try.
You learn new skills over many lessons, so it takes time. Lessons help you practice what to do in the water. Even after lessons, a grown-up still needs to watch you swim.
Thanks for watching!
