Transcript

Hello, my name is Dr. Nwachukwu. I'm a dentist.

What are TMJ and TMD?

TMJ is short for temporomandibular joint, the hinge in front of each ear where the lower jaw meets the skull. TMD is the name for disorders of these joints and the muscles that move the jaw. Many people say TMJ for both.

TMD can bring jaw pain, clicking or popping, or a jaw that is stiff or hard to open. At a visit, the dentist often asks about these, feels the jaw joints and muscles, and checks how the teeth meet.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your dental team can explain what applies to you.

Thanks for watching.
