Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Olmedo. I'm a sports medicine physician.

What is a sprain?

A sprain happens when a ligament stretches too far or tears. Ligaments are strong bands that hold bones together at a joint, like your ankle or wrist.

The doctor asks how it happened and looks for swelling or bruises. You can tell the doctor how each spot feels. Then they press around the joint and move it. Sometimes the doctor takes an X-ray to check the bones.

Then the doctor talks with your grown-up about a plan. You might leave with a wrap or a brace.

Thanks for watching!
