Hello, my name is Dr. Thambiah. I'm a rheumatologist.
What happens at a first rheumatology visit?
A first rheumatology visit usually starts with questions. The rheumatologist, a doctor for joint, muscle and autoimmune conditions, asks when symptoms began and which joints feel stiff, swollen or sore. Past health, family history and current medicines come up too.
Next comes a careful exam. The doctor often checks many joints for swelling, warmth and how well they move. Blood tests, and sometimes X-rays or an ultrasound, may be ordered. Results are often discussed at a follow-up visit.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your rheumatologist can explain what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
