Hi, I'm Khushi. I'm a studio assistant.

Why does the paint look different now?

Pottery paint often looks pale and chalky as it dries. It is made to change color in a very hot oven called a kiln.

Many studios have sample tiles that show how each color looks after firing. You can look at the tiles before you pick your colors. After you paint, your piece often gets a clear coat called glaze. The heat in the kiln melts the glaze into a shiny layer, and the colors brighten.

When your piece comes out of the kiln, it usually looks shiny and smooth.

Thanks for watching!
