Hello, my name is Dr. Sahota. I'm a periodontist.
What happens at a periodontal exam?
A periodontal exam is a close check of the gums and the bone that holds the teeth in place. It usually starts with a review of health history and medicines.
The space between each tooth and the gum is measured with a thin probe marked like a small ruler. Bleeding, gums that have pulled back and loose teeth are also noted. X-rays may show the bone level around the roots. The periodontist then explains the findings and the treatment options.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your periodontist can explain what your own results mean.
Thanks for watching.
