Hello, my name is Luca Spreafico. I'm a DNA specimen collector.
How does the cheek swab work?
A cheek swab collects cells from the inside of the mouth, and those cells carry DNA. It has a soft tip on a long stick.
A trained collector rubs the swab against the inside of each cheek, then dries, labels and seals it. Each person being tested has their own swabs. The lab reads the same DNA markers from each sample and compares them. For a legal test, the collector also checks photo ID and records who handled each sample.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your testing center can tell you what applies to your case.
Thanks for watching.
