Hello, my name is Ravi Selvarajah. I'm a midwife.
What does a midwife do?
A midwife is a trained professional who cares for people during pregnancy, labor and birth, and after the baby arrives. Many midwives also offer checkups, birth control and other gynecologic care.
Prenatal visits with a midwife include the usual checks, such as blood pressure, weight and the baby's heartbeat. During labor, a midwife supports the birthing person, checks on the baby and attends the birth. Midwives work in hospitals, birth centers and homes, and they work with physicians when more specialized care is needed.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your midwife can tell you what applies to you.
