Hello, my name is Smitha Pillai. I'm an equipment specialist.
How is a wheelchair fitted?
A wheelchair fitting matches a chair to a person's body and daily needs. A trained specialist, sometimes with a physical or occupational therapist, measures the person while seated. Hip width, thigh length, lower leg length and back height guide the seat size, footrest height and backrest.
Questions about getting into a car or through doorways come up too. Once the chair is ready, the person sits in it while armrests, footrests and the cushion are adjusted for comfort and posture.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your care team can tell you what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
