Hello, my name is Dr. Matar. I'm an infectious disease physician.
What happens at a first visit?
A first infectious disease visit often looks closely at an infection that is hard to treat, keeps coming back or is unusual. Many people are referred by another doctor, who often sends records and test results before the visit.
The specialist asks about symptoms, past treatments, travel, work, pets and other possible exposures. A physical exam follows, and blood, urine or other samples might be collected for testing. The visit often ends with a plan for treatment, tests or follow-up.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your care team can tell you what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
