Hello, my name is Tamati Ihaka. I'm a caseworker.

How do I apply for public housing or a housing voucher?

A public housing authority often runs public housing, a voucher program that helps pay rent to private landlords, or both. Applying starts with a form that asks who lives in the home and what they earn.

Many offices take new applications only while the waiting list is open, and lists can be long. When a name nears the top, staff often check papers such as IDs and proof of income. Who qualifies depends on income limits and other rules.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your service. This is general information, not personal instructions. Staff at your local office can explain what applies to your own household.

Thanks for watching.
