Transcript

Hello, my name is Dr. Sehgal. I'm an electrophysiologist.

How is a pacemaker or defibrillator checked?

A device check reads the information stored inside a pacemaker or defibrillator. That includes records of the heart's rhythm, the battery level and the current settings.

In the clinic, a special computer called a programmer reads the device, either through a small wand placed over it or wirelessly. Settings are sometimes tested or adjusted during the check. Many devices can also send similar readings from home.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your device clinic can tell you what applies to your own device.

Thanks for watching.
