Transcript

Hello, my name is Shona Kerr. I'm a hearing instrument specialist.

How does a hearing aid work?

A hearing aid is a small electronic device that picks up sound, makes it louder and sends it into the ear. Most have a microphone, a tiny computer chip and a small speaker.

The chip is set to match a hearing test, so it can boost the pitches that are harder to hear more than others. Many models have settings for noisy places, and some connect to phones. The settings are often fine-tuned at follow-up visits.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your hearing care provider can explain what applies to you.

Thanks for watching.
