Hello, my name is Dr. Sumangil. I'm an emergency physician.
How does this differ from a hospital emergency department?
A freestanding emergency room gives emergency care in a building separate from a hospital. Like a hospital emergency department, it is usually open day and night and staffed by emergency doctors and nurses.
Many have a lab and imaging, such as X-rays and CT scans, on site. Unlike a hospital, it cannot admit patients for a hospital stay. A patient who needs to be admitted is moved to a hospital, often by ambulance.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your care team can tell you what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
