Hello, my name is Coach Ernesto. I'm a fencing coach.

What happens at my first fencing class?

A first fencing class often starts with putting on gear. The gear includes a mask, a thick jacket and a glove for your sword hand.

The coach leads a warm-up and shows how fencers step forward and back. You can watch the coach's feet first, then copy the steps. Later, you might fence a partner using light touches. Some young beginners use plastic swords.

Before and after fencing someone, you salute with your sword. Then you take off your mask and shake hands.
