Transcript

Hello, my name is Dr. Mourato. I'm an endoscopist.

What is a scope procedure?

A scope procedure, or endoscopy, uses a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera to look inside the digestive tract. An upper scope goes through the mouth to view the esophagus, stomach and upper small intestine. A colonoscopy goes through the rectum to view the colon.

Most people get medicine through an IV to relax or sleep. The doctor views images on a screen and may take small tissue samples, called biopsies. Afterward, people rest while the medicine wears off.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your doctor can explain what applies to you.

Thanks for watching.
