Transcript

Hello, my name is Dr. Reyes. I'm a veterinarian.

How does triage decide which pet is seen first?

Triage is how an emergency vet hospital decides which pet needs care first. Pets are seen by urgency, not by arrival order.

When you arrive, a veterinary technician often checks your pet's breathing, gum color, heart rate and alertness. Pets with trouble breathing, heavy bleeding or seizures are usually treated first. A pet who needs care right away may be taken straight to the treatment area. Stable pets may wait longer, and the order can change as others come in.

Call the clinic if you have questions about your visit or your pet's care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your pet's veterinarian can explain what applies to your pet.

Thanks for watching.
