Hello, my name is Isobel Drummond. I'm a driving instructor.

How does driver education work, from classroom to license?

Driver education usually has two parts, classroom lessons and driving lessons with an instructor. Classroom lessons cover traffic laws, road signs and safe driving. A learner's permit usually comes after passing a written test and a vision check.

Driving lessons often use a school car with an extra brake on the instructor's side. Teens in many states also log supervised practice with a licensed adult. A road test usually comes last, and passing it leads to a license.

Call the school if you have questions about your visit or your lessons. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your instructor can explain the steps that apply to you.

Thanks for watching.
