Transcript

Hello, my name is Derek Schuler. I'm a dog trainer.

What happens at the first class?

The first dog training class often starts with check-in, where vaccine records may be reviewed. Some schools hold the first class as an orientation without dogs.

Dogs usually stay on leash and are spaced apart from one another. The instructor often explains how the class works and shows a skill. Then you practice basics with your dog, such as sitting or responding to a name, often with small food rewards. The class often ends with homework to practice before the next one.

Call the school if you have questions about your visit or your lessons. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your instructor can tell you what applies to your dog.

Thanks for watching.
