Hello, my name is Matteo Fumagalli. I'm a dialysis nurse.
What happens during a dialysis session?
A dialysis session uses a machine to filter waste and extra fluid from your blood. In a center, you usually sit in a reclining chair beside the machine.
Each session usually starts with a weight check and a blood pressure reading. A nurse or technician then connects your fistula, graft or catheter to the machine. Your blood passes through a filter and returns to your body while staff watch your readings. Afterward, you are disconnected and weighed again.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your care team can explain what applies to your own treatment.
Thanks for watching.
