How do returns work, with or without a receipt?
Returns at a department or big-box store usually start at a customer service desk or a register. Each store sets its own return window, and some items might have a shorter one.
With a receipt, the refund usually goes back to the card or cash you paid with. Without one, staff might look up the purchase by your card or rewards account. If they cannot find it, many stores offer store credit instead, and some ask for a photo ID.
