Hello, my name is Clara Byun. I'm an imaging technologist.
What is a dental cone beam CT scan?
A dental cone beam CT scan is an x-ray scan that makes 3D images of the teeth and jaws. The machine's arm usually circles the head while the patient sits or stands still.
Before the scan, metal items such as earrings, glasses and removable dental work are usually taken off. A chin rest and a bite piece often help hold the head steady. The images can show bone, tooth roots, nerve paths and sinuses, and a dentist or radiologist reads them.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your own dentist can explain what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
