Hello, my name is Nick Kostopoulos. I'm a housing counselor.
What happens at a first session?
A first session with a credit or housing counselor is usually a close look at income, expenses and debts. With your permission, the counselor often reviews your credit report. The talk also covers goals, such as paying down debt or buying a home.
You and the counselor may then build a budget and talk through options. For some people, that includes a debt management plan or a homebuyer class. The session often ends with a written plan of next steps.
