Hello, my name is Norbert Ahlers. I'm a pharmacist.
What is compounding?
Compounding is making a medicine to fit one person's needs, based on a prescription. Trained pharmacy staff measure and mix the ingredients, and a pharmacist checks the work. The result is often a strength or form that is not sold ready-made.
A compounded medicine might be a liquid for someone who cannot swallow pills. It might also leave out a dye or other ingredient that a person is allergic to. Compounded medicines are not FDA-approved.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your pharmacist can explain what applies to your own medicine.
Thanks for watching.
