Hello, my name is Dr. Ezeagu. I'm a colorectal surgeon.
What happens at a first colorectal visit?
A first visit with a colon and rectal surgeon usually starts with questions. The surgeon asks about your symptoms, bowel habits, health history and any past colonoscopy.
A physical exam often follows, with a gown or sheet for privacy. You may lie on your side while the surgeon examines the anal area, often with a gloved finger. Sometimes a short scope is used to see inside the anal canal. Afterward, the surgeon explains what they found and any next steps.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your surgeon can tell you what applies to you.
Thanks for watching.
