Transcript

Hi, I'm Erin. I'm an audiologist.

What is a cochlear implant?

A cochlear implant is a device that sends sound signals to the hearing nerve. It can help some people with very little hearing pick up sounds.

The outside part usually sits behind the ear and has a tiny microphone. A round piece holds on with a magnet. The inside part is placed under the skin during an operation. A very thin wire from it goes deep into the ear.

When the implant is first turned on, telling your grown-up how sounds seem can help. Then the audiologist adjusts the settings to fit you.

Thanks for watching!
