Hello, my name is Dr. Lacerda. I'm an eye surgeon.

What happens on surgery day?

Surgery day at a cataract or LASIK center usually starts with check-in and numbing eye drops. For cataract surgery, drops also widen the pupil, and many people get medicine to relax.

People are usually awake, lying back while a small holder keeps the eyelids open. Cataract surgery replaces the cloudy natural lens with a clear artificial one. LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea, the clear front of the eye. Afterward, a shield or glasses protect the eye.

Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your care. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your surgeon can explain what applies to you.

Thanks for watching.
