Hello, my name is Volker Dettmering. I'm a sales consultant.
Why do dealers ask for my license before a test drive?
Dealers ask to see a driver's license before a test drive to confirm that the person driving is licensed. Many also make a copy or scan, which records who has the car while it is off the lot.
The check also matters for insurance, and some dealers ask for proof of the driver's own insurance too. A salesperson often rides along, and some dealers keep the drive to a set route on nearby roads.
Call the office if you have questions about your visit or your service. This is general information, not personal instructions. Your dealership can explain what it asks for before your own test drive.
Thanks for watching.
